The Scandinavian Society for Research in Cardio Thoracic Surgery (SSRCTS) is a formal daughter organization of The Scandinavian Association for Thoracic Surgery (SATS).
For reasons of simplicity the SSRCTS organization has one person in its board. This person serves the tasks as president, secretary, organizer and the scientific committee.
This monarchial organization structure has proven its viability due to short communication lines and effectiveness during the first 10 years of the life of SSRCTS under Jarle Vaage’s leadership. Therefore, there has been no reason to change this structure.
The organization is a non-profit, low budget organization, which has its primary aim to be a friendly and scientifically sound critical forum for young researchers to present their scientific work.
It is also a scene for senior cardiothoracic surgeons to acquire information about ongoing cardiothoracic scientific activities in the Scandinavian countries. By their presence the senior persons provide intellectual challenges to the young researchers and thereby contribute to the very special friendly and stimulating scientific meeting.
Due to sponsorship from collaborating companies it is possible to conduct the meeting without congress fee and the sponsorship also enable invitation of distinguished foreign colleagues to enlighten the audience with their specialized knowledge. Furthermore, presenters’ awards are given to the best presentations
