Presenters Awards 2001 - 2007

Presenters awards were given for the first time at the 11th Annual SSRCTS meeting 2001.

  • 1st Prize: Matti Pokela. Department of Surgery, Anesthesiology and Forensic Medicine, Univeristy of Oulu, Finland for his presentation: "Cortical brain micro dialysis findings predict brain injury and neurological outcome after hypothermic circulatory arrest in pigs"

  • 2nd Prize: Lise Lotte Sabroe Ebbesen. Institute of Experimental Clinical Research, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for her presentation: "Parodoxical changes in whole blood coagulation profile in rats suffering from hyperhomocysteinemia determined by roTEG trombelastography"

  • 3rd Prize: S.C. Stoica. Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, United kingdom for his presentation: Immunohistochemical analysis of endothelial cell activation in right and left ventricles of transplanted human hearts

On the 12th Annual Meeting, 2002 the Presenters awards were given to:

  • 1st Prize: Fausto Labruto. Crafoord Laboratory of Experimental Surgery and Dept. of Thoracic Surgery, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden for his presentation: " Intraperitoneal injections induce a preconditioning-like effect in mice

  • 2nd Prize: Benny Soerensen. Centre for Haemophilia and Thrombosis and Dept. of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for his presentation: "Whole blood coagulation dynamics in patients on vitamin K antagonists and efficacy of recombinant factor VIIa (NOVOSEVEN) in serious haemorrhage"

  • 3rd Prize: Christopher Wigfield. Dept. of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Newcastle and Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom for his presentation: "Ameliorated reperfudion injury in lung transplantation after reduction of brain death induced inflammatory graft damage in the donor"

On the 13th Annual Meeting 2003 the Presenters awards were given to:

  • 1st Prize: Dag Nordhaug. Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, University Hospital of Northern Norway, Tromso, Norway for his presentation: "Nitric oxide synthase inhibition impairs myocardial efficiency and ventriculo-arterial matching in acute cardiogenic shock"

  • 2nd Prize: Peter Johansen. Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and Institute of Experimental Clinical Research, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for his presentation: "In vivo quantification of mechanical heart valve noise"

  • 3rd Prize: Mathias Perthel. Bad Bevensen, Germany for his presentation: "Impact of orientation of the Medtronic Hall tilting disk mitral prosthesis on intraventricular flow patterns using cardiac-MRI"

On the 14th Annual Meeting 2004 the Presenters awards were given to:

  • 1st prize for oral presentation: Michael Galagudza. Department of Pathophysiology and Laboratory of Biophysics of Circulation, St. Petersburg, I.P. Pavlov Federal Medical University, St. Petersburg, Russion Federation & Centre for Physiologic Gene Function, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden & Department of Surgery, Ullevaal University Hospital, Oslo, Norway for his presentation: "Brief global ischemia convert persistent reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation into regular rhythm in the rat heart"

  • 2nd prize for oral presentation: Camilla Nielsen. Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and Institute of Experimental Clinical Research, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for her presentation: "Evaluation of turbulence in the Medtronic Advantage TM - a new bileaflet heart valve design"

  • 1st prize for poster presentation: Troels Fogh Pedersen. Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery & Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for his presentation: "Angle dependency in strain and strain rate evaluated in a dynamic test phantom"

On the 15th Annual Meeting 2005 the Presenters awards were given to:

  • 1st prize for oral presentation: Grzegorz Suwalski. Department of Cardiac Surgery, Warsaw Medical University, Warsaw, Poland for his presentation: "Cryothermy or radiofrequency? - which energy is better in endocardial ablation for surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation"

  • 2nd prize for oral presentation: Christian Høyer. Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for his presentation: "Assessment of myocardial stunning in a procine OPCAB-model by use of Doppler Strain and Strain Rate"

  • 1st prize for poster presentation: Mari-Liss Kaljusto. Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery & Institut of Experimental Medical Research & Department of Surgery, Ulleval University Hospital, Oslo, Norway for her presentation: "Ischaemic postconditioning does not attenuate ischaemia-reperfusion injury in the isolated, perfused rat heart

On the 16th Annual Meeting in Geilo, February 9th - 11th, 2006 the Presenters awards were given to:

  • 1st prize for oral presentation: Hanna Alaoja, Department of Surgery, Oulu University Hospital, Finland for her presentation: "Does leukocyte filtration decrease the amount of activated neutrofils in cerebral capillaries during cardiopulmonary bypass with deep hypothermic circulatory arrest? - A direct visualization"
  • 2nd prize for oral presentation: Marte Bliksøen, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Institute of Experimental Medical Research and Department of Surgery, Ullevål University Hospital, Oslo, Norway for her presentation"Role of hydrogen Sulphide, a novel gasotransmitter, in ischemia-reperfusion injury of the isolated, perfused rat heart"
  • 1st prize for poster presentation: Ole Halfdan Larsen, Center for Haemophilia and Thrombosis, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby Sygehus, Denmark for his presentation: "Whole blood experimental model of thrombocytopenia

  • On the 17th Annual Meeting in Geilo, February 8th - 10th, 2007 the Presenters awards were given as two 1st prizes for oral presentation to:
  • 1st prize for oral presentation: Hanna Alaoja, Department of Surgery, Oulu University Hospital, Finland for her presentation: "Effects of pH Management During Selective Antegrade Cerebral Perfusion on Cerebral Microcirculation and Metabolism: Alpha-Stat Versus pH-stat."
  • 1st prize for oral presentation: Martin Karlsson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden for his presentation"Fibrinogen: A Potential Biomarker for Bleeding and Blood Transfusion after Cardiac Surgery" 
  • 1st prize for poster presentation: Henrik Jensen, Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery & Institute of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby, Denmark for his presentation: "Papillary muscle relocation in addition to down-sized ring annuloplasty improves mitral valve coaptation geometry in chronic functional ischemic mitral valve regurgitation"
